It explains why a 31-year-old like TJ Watt can still be highly productive yet rank below younger stars like Myles Garrett, Nick Bosa, or Jared Verse. While Watt remains a strong fantasy asset, the inherent difficulty of treading water at his age makes him a riskier long-term investment than those still moving forward in their careers. This framework helps dynasty managers make smarter decisions — prioritizing youth and upside while knowing exactly when veterans are starting to fight the current. waves, so knowing the true age curves of IDP is essential. While elite players can remain productive into their late twenties and early thirties, most begin to decline around age 32. This isn't just theory. Looking at recent seasons, nearly every top-10 fantasy defensive lineman finished within the 24-to-30-year-old range. The trend has remained remarkably consistent year after year. Because of that, age serves as a tiebreaker throughout these rankings, especially when comparing players with similar production profiles. His breakout 2025 season finally delivered the full package, producing 14.5 sacks, 54 tackles, 34 solos, and four forced fumbles while playing all 17 games. Owns a 92.8 PFF pass-rush rate since entering the league. For dynasty managers looking for the safest combination of youth and elite upside, Hutchinson is the clear DL1. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year finalist finished near the top of the league in pressures, hurries, and pass-rush win rate. Anderson is a great cornerstone with 93 pressures, 3rd in the league last season, resulting in the 4th-best pass rush rate in 2025. At just 24 years old, Anderson offers both immediate production and long-term dynasty value. Undergoing knee surgery in late December, he'll likely miss the first two games of the season. Those owners with recency bias need to be reminded that he remains one of the most dominant defensive players in football. A buy-low window is now. While injuries interrupted portions of his recent seasons, his per-game production continues to place him among the elite fantasy options at the position. Parsons had 12.5 sacks in the first 13 weeks before going down to injury. Double-digit sack upside remains a yearly expectation whenever he is healthy. When healthy, Bosa consistently delivers top-five production at the position and remains firmly within the prime age window for elite edge rushers. You are still going to get a season or two of elite value left here, especially the elite ones. His breakout was 16.5 sacks over 17 games, but only one double-digit sack performance in his career before this. His floor is eight sacks and 50 tackles each year, so that is a bankable floor. Even when sack totals fluctuate, he consistently produces tackles and pressures at a level that keeps him fantasy relevant. His combination of floor and upside makes him an ideal cornerstone for competitive dynasty rosters. First, he returns to the Raiders, who are switching to a 3-4. The move (and reason for the original trade) is that he would move to OLB, where he is better suited to play Edge. We have not seen Crosby as an outside linebacker, so we will have to see what that production looks like. His extreme 95+% snap volume has contributed to tremendous production throughout his career, but it may also be contributing to a growing list of injuries. (Ankle, torn shoulder, nagging knee injuries) Dynasty managers should remain aware of those risks while recognizing that Crosby continues to perform at a top-tier level whenever he is on the field. He played in just 15games, he had 45 solos out of 73 tackles and ten sacks. But signs are starting to show with injuries mounting up but despite everything, he remains elite. Despite some industry experts remaining unsure of his value, he broke out in impressive fashion, posting a 23% pass-rush win rate last season, peaking at 31%. He offers a rare opportunity to secure a young, high-upside edge rusher who could still be undervalued in many drafts. His tackles are a bit lower, but you want him for the explosion and splash plays. He's a fringe DL1 in most league formats and is better than most of your friends think. DL10 TJ Watt, Pittsburgh Steelers https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1985056293749768347?s=20 Despite signs of slowing down, he still had a decent IDP season, and IDP owners should be pleased with him. It's just we've been spoiled by superior production, as it just wasn't our usual TJ Watt. By comparison, we learned from the sack regression article to keep an eye on tackles and TFL, which he regressed in both categories. At 31 years old now, Sacks have dropped significantly from 19.0 (2023) and 11.5 (2024) to just 7.0 in 2025. You'll still get nice redraft value here, but time is running out for Watt after this two-year window. Most of his production came during the second half of the season, recording 7.5 of his 8 sacks over the final nine games. Past three seasons, over 15% pressure rate, one of the best over that time, despite not getting the sacks he gets the pressures historically. Reasons for optimism: Only 22 years old Generated elite pressure numbers Led qualifying defenders in quick pressures Finished the season strongly With 66 pressures in 2025, the most out of all defenders, with 200 snaps, should make a claim to be a tier one player. A full workload could elevate him into the top tier of dynasty defensive linemen. Continue to provide strong fantasy value at 28 years old, thanks to: Consistent snap volume Double-digit sack upside Strong run-support production Long-term contract security Playing opposite TJ Watt often creates favorable opportunities as offenses focus protection elsewhere. Not only did Simmons achieve eleven sacks, he also had 67 tackles and three forced fumbles. A likely regression candidate, as defensive tackles aren't something I chase in IDP, I would be more than okay starting him as a DL2 option. Simmons turns 29 this season, and that's a prime age for interior linemen. He remains the premier defensive tackle in this range and finished among the highest-scoring defensive linemen last season. Advantages include: Elite DT production Prime age for interior defenders Longer positional longevity compared to edge rushers DL15 Danielle Hunter, Houston Texans Aging out quickly, but tell him that it's Danielle Hunter. He continues to defy father time, but its getting up there. Despite saying all of this, he will be an elite option and lead the league in most major categories. Continue playing him until the wheels fall off. High-Upside Mini Tier: DL2 that could breakout to DL1 DL16 Laiatu Latu https://twitter.com/RealIDPHunter/status/2022353044734636033?s=20 The stats above will tell you everything you need to know about Latu, and the breakout is coming. He combines strong pass-rush and run-defense grades with solid tackle production. While some splash plays may be difficult to repeat, his underlying metrics support sustained value. Draft him as DL2, but play him as DL production. DL17 Tuli Tuipulotu https://twitter.com/BoltUpYo/status/2010528759162798311?s=20 One of the youngest on the list, an extremely young defender, 16.9% win rate: Strong tackle totals Excellent pressure rate Significant developmental upside His week-to-week consistency remains the primary concern, but his overall impressive production. When healthy, Phillips continues to generate pressure at an elite level and remains a strong dynasty target. Got a significant boost in pressure earned, once he got traded to the Eagles, and now joins a Panthers squad that will need him to play every down desperately. If he can stay healthy, this could be a breakout season. DL19 James Pearce Jr., Atlanta Falcons https://twitter.com/BillyM_91/status/1879221522533167484?s=20 With a 29.5% true pass rush rate, and a legit candidate for DROY last season. Pearce is one of the most appealing buy-low candidates: Led rookies in sacks Strong rookie production Excellent long-term upside However, monitoring court updates and overall behavior could quickly boost his value. These things could get messy, but you may be in the clear. Time will tell. DL20 Dallas Turner, Minnesota Vikings https://twitter.com/RealIDPHunter/status/2022804720272781499?s=20 With no Greenard in his way now, Turner has high upside as a breakout candidate. Turner had a strong finish to 2025 (especially after Jonathan Greenard’s injury), posting solid pressures and sacks in increased snaps, and based on the tweet above, looks primed for a bigger every-down role in Year 3. DL21 Jonathan Greenard, Philadelphia Eagles https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/2047838008389341432?s=20 Still just 28 years old, this Veteran pass-rush specialist is now with the Eagles. Traded from Minnesota to Philly in April 2026. for a team that hasn't had a double-digit sack rusher since they had four during their Super Bowl run season. He's going to get every opportunity to log snaps here and has consistent sack producer volume when healthy, but injury history and age cap his ceiling, so you could get him as a steal in drafts. DL22 Chop Robinson, Miami Dolphins https://twitter.com/TheListFinsPod/status/2062140993470885898?s=20 There's an argument to be made about this being the next young elite edge rusher here. I won't make it, as the Dolphins are in flux. With no Chubb in his way, Robinson added muscle this offseason and is targeting a bigger every-down role. The top defender and award getter in his draft class was a 2025 first-round pick. Walker showed strong run defense as a rookie and is expanding his pass-rush reps in OTAs for the 2026 season. Falcons are deliberately developing him at the edge, but they like his positional flexibility. Could be this season's breakout candidate. Time will tell. DL24 Byron Murphy II, Seattle Seahawks https://twitter.com/new_era72/status/2057638915910058020?s=20 Here's a secret I don't tell many, but Murphy generates points in 1-2-3,, and you could start him on two DL platforms. Now, would I draft an Interior lineman to do that? Absolutely now. But just like Jeffery Simmons on this list ahead of him, he is a credible disruptor up front and will cause havoc. Now entering Year 3. Murphy has flashed as a high-upside DT with strong athleticism. For those who avoid the "DT approach", there are exceptions: as you could draft Murphy way later and he will produce as DL2, but play him as a backup on your bench. Proven Veterans with (DL25–DL29) DL25 Byron Young, Los Angeles Rams Young's breakout production and the Rams' strong track record in developing defenses make him an attractive option. Seems fluky to chase sacks, but with Myles Garret now in town and talk of Aaron Donald possibly coming out of retirement, anything is possible. DL26 George Karlaftis, Kansas City Chiefs While not considered an elite pass rusher, Karlaftis offers: Every-down role Contract security Proven sack production Youth on his side DL27 Chase Young, New Orleans Saints Buried ADP on Sleeper. Young remains one of the most fascinating upside bets. Why he's still appealing: Strong pass-rush efficiency Double-digit sack potential Only 26 years old Appears to be entering his prime Additional Veterans, though declining: DL 28 Montez Sweat, Chicago Bears: Age and analytics DL29 Greg Rousseau, Buffalo Bills: Overall Production and switch to 3-4 scheme. Both continue to offer a starting value despite some year-to-year inconsistency. Capable Starters Tier (DL30–DL50) This group contains reliable starters, aging veterans, developmental prospects, and players whose value depends heavily on their playing careers, landing spots, and future opportunity. Notable names include: Andrew Van Ginkel Trey Hendrickson Quinnen Williams Travon Walker Dexter Lawrence Jonathan Cooper DeForest Buckner Jermaine Johnson Zach Allen Will McDonald IV Derrick Brown Mason Graham Rashan Gary Leonard Williams Mike Green Super Sleeper Tier: The best Dart throw you could make: The Austin Booker Theory DL 45 Austin Booker, Chicago Bears https://twitter.com/Nate_Tice/status/2000994873437286516?s=20 Austin Booker shockingly made it through the NFL Draft and free agency without a replacement threatening to take his spot. He is coming off a good season, 4.5 sacks despite only playing in ten games. There's a massive snap count waiting for him opposite Montez Sweat, as evident by his play at the end of the season. From Weeks 14-17, where he logs snaps of 89%,82%,82%, 92% Booker logged most of his production, 3.5 of those aforementioned 4.5 sacks. Now let that sink in. Often buried in ADP and falsely assumed to be the backup to Dayo Odeyingbo on some sites. He's a breakout IDP star in his third season, especially in Big Three Scoring splah play leagues. Booker is the ultimate dart throw. Honorable Mentions (DL46–DL50) Walter Nolen Uchenna Nwosu Josh Sweat Harold Landry Nolan Smith Overall Takeaway The rankings heavily favor 1-2-3 scoring and players who consistently generate pressure over those who simply post high sack totals. Young pass rushers such as Abdul Carter, James Pearce Jr., Dallas Turner, and Laiatu Latu are viewed as potential future stars, while veterans like Jeffery Simmons, Chase Young, and George Karlaftis provide a blend of stability and upside.
